Alan Bucior, Technical Director

Alan has over 15 years of professional software development, with over 12 years in the video game industry. Prior to game development, Alan began his software engineering career developing air traffic control software for Hughes Aircraft, gaining a background in large scale software architecture and development. He entered the game industry via Electronic Arts, where he spent 8 years, working on consistently AAA titles such as Need for Speed and the James Bond 007 franchise. His game development background spans almost all of the major areas, including front-end, rendering, physics, AI, tools, and pipeline work, and has taken on the role of Engineering Lead or Co-lead on numerous titles. At Slant Six, Alan is the Technical Director responsible for handheld and Wii game development. He holds an Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria (Canada).

Brian Thalken, Managing Director

Brian’s career has centered on project and organizational management. Brian is responsible for overseeing all aspects of business development and operations at Slant Six Games. Prior to founding Slant Six Games, Brian founded and served as President and CEO for Barking Dog Studios, a Vancouver based game development studio. In 2002 Barking Dog was sold to Take2 Interactive’s Rockstar Games (makers of the Grand Theft Auto series of games).  Brian served as President of Rockstar Vancouver for 2 years following the sale, overseeing all aspects of the operations of the studio.  Prior to founding Barking Dog Studios, Brian worked for 5 years as a Producer with Radical Entertainment, which at the time was one of the largest independent developers in North America.  He holds a BA in Arts Management from San Francisco State University.

Dan McBride, Director of Development

Dan’s 20 year game development career began with utilizing his technical background as a Software Engineer on various Sega Genesis titles at Toronto’s Gray Matter. Dan left for the West Coast in 1996 and took a Producer position at Radical Entertainment in Vancouver, delivering Independence Day and X Games: Pro Boarder. In 1999 Dan welcomed his next challenge in the games industry, as a Senior Producer with Barking Dog Studios/Rockstar Vancouver. In this role he was responsible for contributing to company strategy and high level planning as well as overseeing the development of several PlayStation2 and PC titles including CounterStrike – Beta 5 and Global Operations.
As a founder and Director of Development at Slant Six Games since 2005, Dan is part of the management team charting the organization’s overall strategy while also being responsible for overseeing all product development.

Lance Davis, Chief Financial Officer

Lance Davis is a Chartered Accountant with strong industry experience. Lance has previously served as CFO for Radical Entertainment, Relic Entertainment, and Barking Dog Studios/Rockstar Vancouver. His area of expertise is in the realm of garnering financing and providing business structure to the companies he has been involved with. His experience in the technology industry provides Slant Six Games with the strong business foundation it requires to achieve its goals. In addition to his expertise in the financial realm, Lance contributes to Slant Six Games by working closely with senior management to provide direction for the Company, and to assist with all aspects of the administrative functions.

Michael Kerr, Senior Producer

Mike has been working in the interactive entertainment industry since 2002.  After a 10 year career in aviation, managing flying schools, teaching Flight Instructors and doing aerial photography, he decided to pursue a life-long interest in games.  Starting in a quality assurance position at Electronic Arts, Mike quickly moved into a role in 1st Party Compliance, ensuring that all products met the standards of the major console companies.  Mike then joined the Fusion team as an Art Production Manager.  Over the course of two years he managed art production for 9 Playstation Portable games including titles in the Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, The Sims and Marvel franchises.  Mike joined Slant Six Games in 2006 as a Project Manager for Socom: U.S. Navy Seals Tactical Strike and most recently was the Producer of Socom: U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 3, both for the Playstation Portable.  Mike has an educational background in music and theatre and holds Canadian and American Commercial Pilot Licenses. 

Paul Martin, Director of Technology

Paul has been writing code for video games since 1996 and is currently the Director of Technology for Slant Six Games, and one of its founding owners.
His computer software background is in; low-level graphics rendering, architectures and special effects and has expert knowledge in the areas of; authoring tools, data pipelines and team process for large development teams for video games.
He firmly believes that game studios are as good as their development tools and has been involved for many years developing bespoke tools and data build pipelines for generating optimal game content.
Paul’s professional interests include technical management, with an emphasis on optimizing process and work flow.
His recreational interests include all gravity sports involving mountains and rubber treads.
Paul cordially invites anyone else in the industry to join him in any of the above.

Peter Doidge-Harrison, Technical Director and Producer

Peter Doidge-Harrison is a veteran console engineer and project manager with an extensive background making some of the world’s most famous console and PC games. He has been in the industry since the mid nineties and his games have sold millions of units, on franchises such as Dungeon Keeper, FIFA, James Bond 007, Need For Speed and SOCOM. He now focuses on project and product management at Slant Six and specializes in leading technical and creative teams to deliver AAA quality games.

Scott Paterson, Art Director

Scott Paterson is a graduate of Sheridan College with a degree in Classical Animation and has an 18 year background in various aspects of the entertainment industry. He founded Blackbird Animated Productions, an animation studio that created award winning shorts and commercials for television. Shortly thereafter, he acquired Meta Media, a post production studio which produced credits and subtitles for film and documentaries. In 1993 Scott re-located to Vancouver to work for Motion Works Inc. as Lead Artist/Senior Animator. In 2002 Scott accepted a position with Barking Dog Studios as Art Director and served as Art Director with Rockstar Vancouver.
